Our proud history:

1893 - 1920
When we first opened our doors in 1893, our family was determined to bring the best in Italian "grosseria" products to the thriving West Side of New York. It was a vibrant time and place. People from all over the world swarmed through our neighborhood, many of them seeking our fresh cheeses, meats, and ingredients to use in their traditional cooking at home.
At the turn of the century Great Uncle James Manganaro began working in the store as a young boy, revelling in the variety and vitality of the City, and our little corner of it in particular. He knew even then that a wide selection of quality goods and knowledgeable, personal service were the keys to a successful, lasting business.

1930 - 1950
Soon it became time to start a family so the traditions brought over from Italy could be carried on. James Manganaro's sister Nina and brother Luis came over from Italy to join him. In 1924 Nina married Anthony Dell'Orto. They lived above the store and became the proud parents of four healthy sons. Two of the brothers, Sal and Vincent, became a major part of the family venture.
In 1949 Sal Dell'Orto married Marion D'Angelo. In no time at all they had five daughters. Like the generations before them, they grew up in the Manganaro store.

1960 - 1990
Over the years, our store became a frequent stop for many of New York's most talented (and discerning) residents and visitors, including Enrico Caruso, Arturo Toscanini, Rocky Marciano, James Beard, Craig Claiborne, and a host of others both famous and not so famous.

2002
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Just as in World War II, late in 2002, we at Manganaro Foods were able to bring a taste of home to our fine young Men and Women "Over There" - this time in Iraq.

Today
Since Manganaro Foods was founded, our neighborhood has undergone many changes. In the early 1940's, construction on the Lincoln tunnel forced thousands of families to move from the area. In the late 1950's and early 1960's, many people packed up and headed for the suburbs.
Since then, The Javits Center and the Times Square renewal have completely transformed the area. Penn Station also draws multitudes to our little corner of the world. Through all these transitions, Manganaros is still a thriving family business.
